Karl Scharfenstein, 75, died March 7, 2002, at Catholic Medical Center, Manchester, NH. He was born in Remscheid, Germany on August 1, 1926, the son of Alfred and Lisa (Schraven) Scharfenstein. He lived in Germany until 1961 when he and his lovely wife, Gertrude, moved to New York City, before moving to Londonderry, NH and later Manchester, NH. Karl received his engineering degree in Germany and worked at Disogrin Industries in New York and Manchester for 28 years as a draftsman and mechanical engineer before retiring in 1989. He loved designing and building things, and single-handedly constructed several additions on their Londonderry home. His technical skills were unsurpassed. Karl loved life in America and especially enjoyed sharing the history and sights with visiting relatives from Germany. Karl was a loving and devoted husband of 46 years to Gertrude (Schmidt) Scharfenstein, a caring father to Bruni Corriveau of Manchester, and a truly devoted and involved grandfather to his only grandchild, Trish Burger of Natick, Massachusetts, and his two great grand-daughters. His sense of humor and loving presence wil be greatly missed. Services will be private. The Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH is in charge of arrangements.
