Katharine S. Blanchard

Katharine (Kay) S. Blanchard (Martin) died peacefully, surrounded by family on March 2nd, 2020 at Genesis Health Care in Lebanon, NH. Kay was born in West Bridgewater, VT on March 18th, 1933 the daughter of Amos Martin and Edna Balch (Stevens). Kay was raised by her grandmother, Sarah Stevens. Katharine married her husband Frank Blanchard in December of 1952. Kay and Frank raised five children: Anita, Paul, Gene, Sheila, and Trudy.
Kay was a member of the Bridgewater Grange for over 50 years. She also worked for 5C for many years, various other jobs, then eventually retired from the VA Hospital. After retirement, Kay spent many summers with her camping family at Moose River Campground in Saint Johnsbury, VT.
Kay is survived by her brother George Balch and wife Mary of Raeford, NC, her sons Paul Blanchard of Claremont, NH, Gene Blanchard of West Hartford, VT, and daughters Sheila Shambo and husband Randy of Hartland, VT, and Trudy Allen and husband Kevin of Enfield, NH. Kay is also survived by several generations of grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
Kay was predeceased by her husband Frank, her sisters Blythe Shockley, Althea Slocum, and Joyce Harlow, brothers Ivan Balch and Donald Balch, her daughter Anita Pollard, grandson Michael Porter, and great grandson Tyler Curtis.
A burial service followed by a family gathering will be held in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local food bank in Kay's memory.
