Kathryn L. Washburn

Kathryn Lorraine Washburn, 89, of Merrimack, NH died on Monday, February 20, 2023 at her residence in Merrimack, NH.  

Mrs. Washburn was born on March 14, 1933, in Revere, MA, the daughter of the late John Leslie and Alice Gertrude (Carroll) Webster. She was a graduate of Revere High School. Later in life, she attended Suffolk University, receiving a Bachelor’s of Science in Business Administration from Suffolk University.  

Prior to her retirement, Mrs. Washburn was employed as a telephone operator, clerk, and technician and worked for NE Telephone. She was one of the first women at New England Telephone to have a technician job. She was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers. Upon her retirement, she received a lifetime gold membership card. She also held a real estate brokers license in Massachusetts.

She enjoyed reading, going to plays and movies, dolls and dollmaking, quilting, painting watercolors, and traveling with her son and her friends. Mrs. Washburn like to visit historic sights and museums with her son and particularly enjoyed the works of Edward Hopper. She was a member of the Nellie Perkins Doll and Minatures Society, and served as their corresponding secretary. She was also a member of the Hannah Dustin Quilt Guild.

Members of her family include; her son, John James Washburn of Merrimack, NH; her sister, Althea Clark of Billerica, MA; her brother, Selwyn Frederick Grace of Middletown, MA; and several nieces and nephews.   

SERVICES: Calling hours will be held on Monday, February 27, 2023 from 5 – 7 p.m. at Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street, in Manchester. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, 11 a.m. in the funeral home chapel. Committal prayers and interment will follow at Edgewood Cemetery in Nashua, NH.
