Laurence R. Childs, 87 passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his family on Saturday Oct. 24, 2015. He was born in Guilford, VT May 3, 1928 the son of Bernard S. and Esther (Howe) Childs.
Laurence graduated from Brattleboro High School Class of 1946. He served his country in the United States Army having been stationed in Fort Knox, Kentucky from 1952 to 1954.
He was married to Miriam H. Huntley on May 27, 1950.
Laurence had worked at Dunham's Wholesale, Holden & Martin for 17 years and D.Js Inc. Wholesale for 26 years as an Accounts Payable Manager.
He was a member of Centre Congregational Church in Brattleboro since 1969.
Laurence is survived by his wife Miriam Childs of Brattleboro, his two daughters, Wanda L. Benoit and her husband Douglas, Wendy L. Parker and her husband James; his son Jeffrey R. Childs, 5 brothers, Wilfred H. Childs of Holly Hill, FL, Alfred S. Childs of Westmoreland, NH, Robert A. Childs of Borden Town, NJ. and Justin H. Childs of Bremerton, WA; 1 sister, Nancy A. Landry of Somersworth, NH; 3 Grandchildren, Brandon D. Benoit, Wesley L. Benoit and Samantha R. Parker; 2 Great Grandchildren, Brandon Alexander Benoit and Enrique Samuel Benoit.
Besides his parents, he was predeceased by 2 brothers, Harold and Norman Childs and 2 sisters, Bernardine Chase Sanderson and Elizabeth M. Childs who died in infancy.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday Oct. 28th from 1:00 to 2:00 PM at the Ker-Westerlund Funeral Home, 57 High St. Brattleboro. A graveside service and interment will follow at 2:30 PM in the Morningside Cemetery, Brattleboro.
