Lena Scannura

October 5, 1931 — March 10, 2023

Londonderry

Lena Scannura passed away peacefully at Courville at Manchester nursing home, on March 10th 2023 at the age of 91. She was born October 5th 1931 in New York City. Her parents and brothers immigrated from the small island nation of Malta.  She was the only one in her family born in the United States.  As a child, she and her parents made frequent trips back to visit family in Malta.  She was a devoted wife and loving mother to her three children. Lena was the youngest of four siblings. All three of her brothers served in the WW2 European battle theater. Her closest brother in age, Joseph Jr. was killed in the D-Day invasion to liberate France. She never forgot Joseph Jr nor the sacrifice their family made back then. In her younger days, Lena worked in various retail positions while living and raising her children on Long Island. Later she worked for a food service company after moving to Palatine Illinois. She had many friends during her time in Palatine. She enjoyed going to movies, dinners and live performances with her friends from work. Her favorite performer was Barry Manilow. Lena and her husband moved to Florida in 1988 for retirement to enjoy a slower pace and the warm weather there. There, she enjoyed frequent and long, daily walks with her husband for exercise. She enjoyed travel and occasionally accompanying her husband on business travel. Lena and her husband made a point of traveling to Normandy France for the 50th anniversary of the D Day invasion. It was an opportunity to commemorate her brother Joseph’s supreme sacrifice for our country.

She is preceded in death by her husband Louis Sr, mother Carmella, father Joseph Sr and her three brothers, Benny, Manny and Joseph Jr. She is survived by her three children, Josie Scannura, Louis Scannura Jr and Mark Scannura, seven grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren, with two more on the way. She will be deeply missed and always loved as she now reunites with all those loved ones who left before her. We will always cherish the memories. Rest in peace and eternal love.

Service Information will be updated at a later date.
