Leo Henry Barrows, Jr, age 71, unexpectedly passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2019 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. He was born on August 7, 1947 in Windsor, VT and was the eldest son of Leo Henry Barrows, Sr. and Ruth I (Simonds) Barrows. He was the husband of Martha Donahue and widower of Carol L (Kalinen) Barrows.
Leo graduated from Black River High School, class of 1965, where he excelled in baseball and soccer. After H.S. Leo joined the U.S. Navy where he served as an electronics technician while serving aboard the USS Monrovia. During this time Leo married his high school sweetheart, Carol L. (Kalinen) Barrows. Together they had two children; Jiyl and Jason Barrows, after spending several years in Virginia, they eventually made their way back to Ludlow, VT. Leo was formerly employed by St. Johnsbury Trucking, Vermont Transit and Okemo Mountain Resort as a diesel mechanic, he was also employed by Mack Molding.
Leo loved working with his hands and being outdoors as much as possible. He took pride in keeping himself healthy, strong, and mentally alert. Leo was looking forward to extensively traveling in his 1967 GM 4107 converted bus/RV on which he spent many hours working to make sure all systems were working properly. Leo also loved helping people solve their mechanical issues and many people sought his extensive knowledge, he loved a mechanical challenge and would research it until he found a solution. He enjoyed spending time on his family genealogy which dates back to the 1600's. With a strong love of family, Leo was happiest when surrounded by his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He leaves a great void and will be sadly missed.
Leo is survived by his mother, Ruth Barrows, his wife, Martha Donahue, daughter, Jiyl Barrows, son M. Jason Barrows and partner, Dalinda DeCosta. Proud grandfather of Ethan Gilmour, his fiancé Jacqueline Graziano, Caleb and Gabriel Barrows, granddaughters Maia Gilmour, Kalinen Barrows and Dani Shearer, great-grandchildren Amara and Liam Gilmour Graziano, Lilly and Ezra Shearer. He leaves behind two brothers, Alan and David Barrows, sister-in-law Wendy, two nieces; Jennifer and Andrea Barrows. Leo is also survived by three step children: Richard Beard and his wife, Vicky, Brenda and Keith Beard and wife Traci. Two step-grandchildren; Alyssa and Jacob Beard, one step-great-granddaughter, Natalie Huntley.
A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, May 24, 2019 at Pleasant View Cemetery, Ludlow, Vt.
