Leo C. Martel, 74, of 10 Harmony Way, died March 19, 2004 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Manchester on May 15, 1929, the son of Ludger and Aldina (Lambert) Martel and had been a Manchester and Goffstown area resident all of his life. He was a Korean War Navy Veteran. He had worked for Sanders as the manager of the engineering model shop until his retirement after 37 years with the company. He attended the New Hampshire Technical Institute. He coached Goffstown Little League and basketball, was active in the Boy Scouts and enjoyed sports and gardening. He was a parishioner of St. Patrick Church. He had a consistent compassion for everyone always encouraged people. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather and enjoyed spending time with his family. Family members include his wife of 49 years, Jeannette (Roy) Martel; two sons, David Martel of Belmont and Steven Martel of Westport, MA; five grandchildren; three brothers, Real Martel of Goffstown, Ovila Martel of Dunbarton and Andrew Martel of Manchester; two sisters, Theresa Taylor of Londonderry and Constance Landry of Manchester; and many nephews, nieces and cousins. Calling hours will be at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 250 Coolidge Avenue on Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday morning at 10:00 in St. Patrick Church. Entombment will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum.
