Leonard Holman Bloomer

Leonard H. Bloomer 92, of NY passed away on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 in VT. He was born in Beacon, NY on March 6, 1922, the son of the late Frank E. and Maude Bloomer; husband of Florence (Parker) Bloomer.

Leonard served 3 years with the 8th Air Force in England during WWII. He was a graduate of Beacon High School, Krissler Business School and Dutchess Community College. He was employed by Texaco Research Center in Glenham, NY until his retirement in 1982. Len was very active in within his community, he served on the vestry at St. Luke's Church, was the president of the Beacon Jaycees, was on the board of directors of the Blodgett Memorial Library, the Greater Southern Dutchess Chamber of Commerce, The American Heart Association, The United Way, vice president of the Sloper-Willen Community Ambulance Service, Town Councilman and the Town Supervisor, until 1991, who was instrumental in getting the new Town Hall built. He was a member of the Beacon Lions Club for 41 years, the Southern Dutchess Exchange Club, the Town of Fishkill Republican Committee, and a life member of the Rombout and Protection Engine Fire Companies. Len was an ardent skier, enjoyed playing golf Southern Dutchess Exchange Club f and tennis, traveling with Florence throughout the US, and cruises throughout the Caribbean.

He is predeceased by three brothers, Earnest, Douglas and Kenneth Bloomer.

He is survived by his wife Florence and their children, Paul Bloomer of Guilford, VT and Alisa (Russ) Sossei of Schoharie, NY; and three grandchildren, Casey, Jesse and Ben.

A Graveside service will be held on Monday, November 10, 2014 at 11AM at Fishkill Rural Cemetery in Fishkill, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Animal Rescue Foundation, 60 Simmons Lane, Beacon, NY 12508.
