Lillian J. Gaumont, 97, formerly of Porter St, Manchester died November 23, 2011 at Hanover Hill Healthcare Center in Manchester.
She was born on April 18, 1914 in Manchester the daughter of John and Lea (Boisvert) Dowd. She was raised and educated in Manchester, and survived her husband of almost 50 years, Roland Gaumont who died in 1988.
Her passing marks the end of an era. Lillian was born at the beginning of World War I, worked to support her family during the Great Depression, and married just before World War II. During WWII, while her husband fought in Europe, she stayed home with their three small children. She told stories of horse drawn ice trucks and gas lights in the Manchester of her childhood, and lived to watch men walk on the moon and play solitaire on a computer. She and Roland cared for their family and enjoyed short trips with her siblings to upstate New York and Canada.
Survivors include her four children: Dorothy Auger and her husband Paul of Naples, Fl and Hampstead, NH; Gloria Hendry of North Grafton, MA; R. Robert Gaumont, Jr. and his wife Barbara (Kies) Gaumont of Merrimack; and Liane Gaumont Luke and her husband William of Boston, MA. She also leaves 14 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren, as well as a brother Richard Dowd of Manchester and her sister Charlotte Howe of Talcotville, CT.
Visitation will be at the Phaneuf Funeral Home, 243 Hanover St, Manchester on Monday November 28th from 9:30 to 10:30AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 11:00AM at St. Pius X Church, Candia Rd, Manchester. Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford. The Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium is in charge of arrangements.
