Lionel A. Caron

Lionel A. Caron, 85, formerly of 29 Dewey Street, Rochester, died January 11, 2004 at the Riverside Rest Home in Dover.<br><br>He was born in Manchester on April 19, 1918, the son of Athanase and Anna (Ducas) Caron and lived in the Manchester area for over 40 years. During the Depression he joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. After that, he joined the Merchant Marines. He was a World War II Navy Veteran. He worked in the construction industry and also owned his own insurance company. In 1965, he moved to Rochester and operated Lee's Loins Grocery Store for many years. He was also the public relations director for Seabrook Race Track. He belonged to the American Legion in Manchester and Rochester. He was a past member of the Catholic War Veterans, Sacred Heart Post. He also was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus. Mr. Caron was an avid fisherman and a well known social dancer.<br><br>In His Life: He was a very loving and generous man, often giving away free insurance and groceries to those in need. He had two grandchildren whom he loved, Glen Caron and Wayne Caron. He also stayed in touch and was close to his ex-wife, Eva Caron of Manchester over the years. He was a stanch conservative republican throughout his life. He will be fondly remembered by all those lives he touched for his constant whistling and happy go lucky nature. His nature had an uplifting effect on everyone he knew.He stayed in touch with his x-wife Eva Caron<br><br>Family members include his son, Dr. Norman Caron and his wife, Mary Jane of Dunbarton; two grandchildren and two great grandchildren; a sister, Lucille Lagasse of Goffstown; his dedicated companion of over 30 years, Marie-Lu Cantin of Sommersworth; and nephews, nieces and cousins.<br><br>Calling hour will be at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 250 Coolidge Avenue on Thursday evening from 6 to 8 PM and again on Friday morning from 9:00 to 10:30 AM. A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated on Friday morning at 11:00 in the Church of the Transfiguration. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery.
