Lois Ann (Janvrin) Malone, 89, of Nashua, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on January 27, 2026. Born on March 14, 1936, in Newburyport, Massachusetts, to Harold and Carrie (Hanna) Janvrin, she was a graduate of Amesbury High School, Class of 1954. It was there she met the love of her life and future husband, Jim Malone. Lois went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts in elementary education from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1958.
Lois dedicated thirty-two years to her passion for teaching, beginning her career in Dover, NH, before spending the majority of her tenure at Broad Street School in Nashua. As a beloved fourth-grade teacher, she left an indelible mark on generations of students with her patience and dedication.
An outdoor enthusiast, Lois found joy in hiking, camping, and skiing with her family. Her competitive spirit was legendary; at age 68, she qualified for the Nature Valley NASTAR National Championships held at Steamboat Springs, Colorado. Though she didn’t pursue the finals, the achievement remained a proud milestone. A lifelong sports fan, she was a fixture at her children’s and grandchildren’s games. She was an avid Boston Red Sox fan who took great pride in having seen Ted Williams play, though she always made room to cheer for the Patriots. Her love for tennis led to many years of play and a hard-won club championship with her dear friend, Pam.
In retirement, Lois and Jim spent winters in Florida, perfecting their golf game and attending spring training. They traveled extensively across the U.S. and abroad, yet Lois always cherished quieter moments spent sewing, gardening, and reading.
Lois was a pillar of her community, serving as treasurer for the international honorary teachers’ organization Alpha Delta Kappa. She was also an active member of the Nashua Retired Teachers’ Association, the Friends of the Nashua Public Library, and a dedicated volunteer for the Nashua PAL (Police Athletic League).
She was predeceased by her husband, James Malone Jr., and her brothers, Harold Janvrin Jr. and Russell Janvrin. She is survived by her loving children: Shaun Malone of Manchester; James Malone III and his wife Sharon of Nashua; and Ann Malone. She leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Hannah Trierweiler and husband David; Patrick and Ciara Malone; and Kirsten Walker and Drew Walker-Myers and husband Jaymes. She is also survived by her brother, Edward Janvrin; her sister, Mable LaValley; and many nieces and nephews.
SERVICES: Arrangements are under the care of the Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 26 Kinsley St., Nashua. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at the Parish of the Resurrection, 449 Broad St., Nashua, on Thursday, February 12, 2026, at 10 a.m. Lois will be interred next to her husband at Edgewood Cemetery immediately following the Mass.
