Lorraine Rita Eclipse (Lemire) Laroche came into this world at home on Manchester’s west side on August 31 during the 1932 total eclipse of the sun. Hence, her doctor entered “Eclipse" on her official birth certificate, which her family believed predisposed her to a sunny disposition throughout her life. She peacefully passed at Mt. Carmel Nursing Center on a sunny afternoon on April 29, 2026, with her family at her side.
She was the daughter of the late Charles Alvin and Berthe Rose (Marquis) Lemire. She was raised in Manchester and graduated from St Marie High school, class of 1950. In 1952 she married the late Joseph Arthur Laroche in Ste. Marie Church. She resided in Portsmouth for 50 years where she raised her family and was a communicant of Immaculate Conception parish. She later lived in Stratham and wintered in Palm Bay FL.
She enjoyed traveling with her husband in their Motor Home, while talking on the CB radio and visiting casinos. She loved listening to music, and belly-laughing jokes. Lorraine belonged to the Seacoast Square Dance Club and was an avid square, round, and ballroom dancer. She was an accomplished seamstress and sewed her own dance attire. She was always ready to eat something sweet. In her professional career, she was a home health aid for Portsmouth VNA, and an office manager for her husband’s company, Maritime Glass. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
She was the widow of Joseph Arthur Laroche who passed in 2013 after 61 years of marriage. She is survived by a daughter, Claudette Laroche of Hooksett, and family - grandson Timothy Laroche Freeman and his wife Heather and their daughter, Ella; grandson Nicholas Laroche Freeman and his wife Melanie and their children, Riley and Charlotte; and a son, Richard Laroche and his wife Joan of Manchester, and family - granddaughter Danielle Laroche Dionne and her husband Austin, and their children, Adrianna, Saige, and Timothy, and granddaughter Julia Laroche Maeda and her husband Toshi. She also leaves behind her nieces and Goddaughters, Micky Lemire Nye and Denise Lemire, along with several other nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Raymond C. Lemire and Rene G. Lemire and by a foster brother, Maurice Remillard.
A calling will take place on Friday, May 15th from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover St., Manchester with a funeral service to follow in the funeral home chapel at 11:00 AM. A graveside service will take place on Monday, May 18th at 10:00 in the NH State Veterans Cemetery, Boscawen.
