Louis Ferdinand Farley, Jr., 81, of Singer Island, FL and Hampton, NH died October 21, 2016 at the Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville. FL due to complications from surgery.

He was born in Manchester on February 10, 1935, the only son of Louis and Philomene (Forbes) Farley, Sr. He attended St. Patrick's School and was in the first graduating class of Bishop Bradley High School. He graduated from Manhattan College in NY and went on to obtain a Master's degree in Civil Engineering from Northeastern University in 1970. He also served in the United States Army during the Vietnam Era. As a member of the NH Department of Public Works, he designed bridges throughout the state. For most of his career, he worked for the Department of Water Supply and Pollution Control (now part of the Department of Environmental Services). He retired from the State of NH in 1999 after 40 years of service. Mr. Farley served many years as a coach at South Little League and devoted countless hours coaching and serving on the MRYHA Board of Directors. He was the founder of the Manchester Youth Hockey's travel team, the Flames. He also coached youth basketball and was president of Cub Scout Pack 118. He was a former member of the Knights of Columbus, Ancient Order of Hibernians, and American Legion. Lou was an avid reader of military history and maintained a library of hundreds of books on the subject. He was an aficionado of military memorabilia, especially swords, field knives, and combat helmets, and accumulated and extensive collection during his life.

He was "Lou" to his beloved wife of 58 years, Joanne (Kelleher) Farley. He was "Dad" to his three sons, Michael Farley who resides with his wife Cathleen in Manchester, Kevin Farley of Candia, and Daniel Farley who along with his wife Linda also lives in Manchester. He was "Grumpy" to his seven grandchildren, Megan Baxter, Brian Farley, Liam Farley, Timothy Farley, Kelly Laplante, Colin Farley and Ciaran Farley; and to his four great grandchildren, Justin Farley, Cayce Farley, Jameson Farley, and Brooke Laplante. He also leaves one nephew and several cousins.

Calling hours will be at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 250 Coolidge Ave., Manchester on Thursday from 4 to 8 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday morning at 10:00 AM in St. Raphael Church. Burial will be private at the convenience of the family in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Our Lady of Florida Spiritual Center, 1300 US Hwy 1, North Palm Beach, FL 33408, or the St. Anselm College Scholarship Fund, 100 St. Anselm Dr., Manchester, NH 03102.
