LOUIS D. TONEY
Littleton, NH - Louis Donald Toney, 69, of Littleton, passed away Monday, July 24, 2006, at Littleton Regional Hospital after a brief illness.
Born in Littleton, NH on October 13, 1936, he was the son of Isaac and Susie (Romano) Toney.
Louis was an outgoing and generous man with a renowned sense of humor. He was a state-licensed plumber and a self-taught entrepreneur who loved working with his hands. He and his wife, Glenna, owned and operated Toneys Market in Littleton for 5 years and went on to build and operate Toneys Mobile Home Park on Brook Road.
Louis attended school at St. Rose in Littleton and worked in maintenance at the schools of Supervisory Union #35 for 27 years, where his friends among the faculty and student body meant a great deal to him. He undertook many projects to enhance the school community and facilities. The graduation bells at Littleton High School had been silent for years when Louis initiated a special project of repairing them and he took great pleasure in hearing them ring for the students at commencement ceremonies once again. His fondness for the students and faculty was reciprocated in their friendship, as well as with several appreciation plaques from students and a wonderful retirement party, all of which he treasured.
Louis attended St. Rose of Lima Catholic Church where, for many years, he took an active part in Sunday Mass. He was also a member of the Littleton Chapter of the Knights of Columbus.
Louis brought much joy to the lives of his family and many friends, and will be dearly missed.
Surviving family members include his wife, Glenna Toney of Littleton; his son and daughter-in-law, Brian S. and Susan Toney of Monroe, NH; his sister and her husband, Mary and Tom McManus of Littleton; his grandchildren and their families, Graham Toney and MaryAnn Deane of West Palm Beach, FL, Sarah Toney and Francis Matott II of Whitefield, NH, and Brian L.
