Lucille Marie Twining, 90, passed away peacefully on March 8, 2021 from Alzheimer's Disease. She was surrounded by her loving children as she went into the arms of her Lord.
Born July 5th, 1930, to Albert and Eva Morneau of Springfield, MA, Lucille was the second youngest of 11 siblings. She grew up and went to school in Springfield where she met and married her husband of 48 years, William L. Twining. After their marriage in 1951 Bill and Lucille began their adventure together as a young Navy couple. They quickly started a family and Lucille found her calling as an incredible mother. In seventeen years, Lucille had 10 children â that's right, 10! Seven daughters and three sons, and she was always quick to say, "the girls were SO much easier than the boys." She gracefully managed all her children while keeping an impeccable household. While the floors were clean enough to eat off, she did always insist they eat at a table. In those 17 years they lived in 17 different homes from Washington to Newfoundland, Canada. Once Bill retired, Lucille was thrilled when they made their way back to New England to their families.
Lucille and Bill finally settled in Nashua, NH in 1971 where their home was always a welcome place to gather. Whether it was sitting on the front porch watching the kids play in the yard or spending time around the dinner table, Lucille loved to be with her family. She always had a smile, a hug, or a kind word to offer, and her magic in the kitchen was enjoyed by all. The expression "to know her was to love her" couldn't be more fitting for Lucille. One of her many gifts was the ability to make each of her children feel like they were her only child. She loved each of them unconditionally and always welcomed them into her arms. Although Alzheimer's disease stole many of Lucille's wonderful qualities, she never lost her loving touch, smile, laugh, or love of donuts!
When her children had finally left the nest, Lucille joined the Nashua Senior Center where she delighted her family with singing and dancing on the stage. She also enjoyed "big ball" bowling once a week and continued baking delicious treats. Her grandchildren always looked forward to her full cookie jar and her strawberry shortcake or lemon squares.
Lucille's legacy will live on in her 10 children and their families: Theresa Ciulla and husband Paul; Debra Ladner and husband Carl; William L. Twining II; Yvette Mercurio and husband Tom; James Twining and wife Jerica; Lawrence Twining and wife Susan; Jeanine Sylvester and husband Scott; Danielle Grindle, Jacqueline Levesque and husband Chris; and Julie Fafel and husband Dave. In addition to her children Lucille leaves 20 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and her youngest sibling, Sister Pauline Morneau CSC whom she adored spending time with. We will miss Lucille's love and presence, but we are so happy she is free from living with a mind that was no longer her own. She is now reunited with her husband William and the 9 siblings who predeceased her.
Lucille was an incredible daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend. She was beautiful, devoted, and selfless beyond words. Her quiet strength and boundless love will be missed by all those who knew and loved her.
The family wishes to thank Holy Cross Health Center for the amazing care they gave to Lucille. They loved her like family and many could be heard calling her "Ma."
A private mass and burial will be held for the family. A memorial celebration will be held later in the year. Donations: In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Sisters of Holy Cross, St. George's Manor, 357 Island Pond Rd., Manchester, NH 03109, or the Alzheimer's Association in Lucille's memory.
