Madeline (Schofer) Smith, 85, of Manchester, NH died on Saturday, October 24, 2020 at St. Teresa's Healthcare, in Manchester, NH. Madeline was born on September 23, 1935, in Pittsburgh, PA, the daughter of the late Erwin and Dora (Wild) Schofer. Upon graduating from South Hills High School in 1953, she began her career with Bell Telephone Company.
In 1971, she married Paul L. Smith and they moved to Nashua, NH, and then settled in Manchester, NH, while continuing her career with New England Telephone Company where she retired after 43 years of service.
She was a member of The Manchester Choral Society, The Manchester Philharmonic Orchestra, and The Grace Episcopal Church Choir for many years. She also volunteered at The Nashua Symphony Orchestra.
She was predeceased by her husband; sisters Martha Schofer and Gretchen (Schofer) Ellrod; and nephew Earl A. Ellrod III. She is survived by her niece, Erin L. Ellrod of Bethel Park, PA, and her nephew, Ryan N. Ellrod and his wife Amy, of Mt. Holly, NC.
Madeline's extreme kindness and generosity toward everyone she had ever met will always be fondly remembered.
SERVICES: There are no calling hours. A graveside service will be held on Thursday, October 29, 2020, 2:00 PM at Pine Grove Cemetery, 765 Brown Avenue, in Manchester. Those in attendance are respectfully requested to wear face coverings and practice social distancing.
Donations may be made in memory of Madeline to the charity of one's choice.
