Margaret M. Thompson

Margaret (Landry) Thompson passed away peacefully on September 27, 2024 following a period of declining health. She was 1 of 11 children born February 2, 1922, in Lowell, MA to Peter and Obeline Landry.

The family moved to Maine briefly, then settled in Lincoln, NH where Margaret would later meet her husband of 69 years, Roger Thompson. She shared stories of moving with Roger during WWII while he was in the Army. First in Maine and then NJ where she was one of the “Rosie the Riveters: working during WWII winding electrical motors and in clothing manufacturing. She returned to Lincoln during Roger’s overseas deployment and worked at the Parker Young Paper Mill briefly before starting their family together. She was a strong advocate for her son, Lee, who lived life with a progressive neuromuscular disorder. A lifelong communicant of St Joseph Parish in Lincoln, she taught religious education for many years and volunteered at Pemi Valley Church providing child care.

Margaret was the recipient of the Boston Cane presented to her by the town of Lincoln on August 13, 2019, at the age of 97. She was a knowledgeable historian when it came to Lincoln and Woodstock history, an avid reader, loved the outdoors and always said there could not have been a better place to raise her family, especially at their home on the Pemigewasset River.

She is predeceased by her husband, Roger and son, Lee. Survived by her incredibly supportive children and spouses, David and Donna Thompson, Peter and Diana Thompson, Anne Fusco, Mary Albrecht, Helen and Rocky Jones, Elizabeth Rossi and Eugene Dionne, Fay and Mike Houde. Numerous grandchildren, great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

A mass of Christian burial will be at St Joseph Parish Lincoln, NH on October 2, 2024, at 10 am and interment immediately following at Riverside Cemetery, Lincoln, NH. In lieu of flowers please donate in Margaret Thompson’s memory to the Lincoln- Woodstock Food Pantry, PO Box 25, Lincoln NH 03251.
