Maria O. (Orfanedes) Skaperdas, 75, of Manchester, passed away July 7, 2011 at Exeter Hospital.
She was born in Norfolk, VA on April 26, 1936, the daughter of Costas and Erasmia Orfanedes and had been a Manchester resident since 1960. She was a past trustee of the New Hampshire Hospital Association and past president of the Elliot Hospital Womenâs Auxiliary. She was a member of the Manchester Heritage Commission and member of the Daughterâs of Fourka Society. She was a long-time member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral and a member and past president of the Anagenesis Society. She was a volunteer at Glendi for many years and also volunteered at the Currier Gallery of Art. She was an avid reader, traveled extensively and had an appreciation for the arts.
In Her Life: Family members include her husband of 53 years, Dr. Nicholas G. Skaperdas; two sons, George Skaperdas of Hooksett and Dr. Christopher Skaperdas and his wife Marina of Manchester; a daughter, Joyce Skaperdas Anderson and her husband Keith of Manchester; two grandchildren, Andriana and Niko; two brothers, George Orfanedes of NC and Angelo Orfanedes of SC; and several nephews, nieces and cousins.
Calling hours will be at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street on Monday from 4 to 8 PM with the Trisageon service to be held at 6:30 PM. Funeral services will take place on Tuesday morning at 10:00 in St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral. A committal service will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.
