MARION FLORENCE CALLENDER
LISBON Marion Florence Callender, 78, of Goudie Street, Lisbon, NH, passed away on Saturday, September 6th at the Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center, after a short illness.
Marion was born on June 29, 1925, a daughter to Harry R. and Florence (Craig) Gould in Piermont, NH. She graduated from Bradford Academy in 1943 and from Plymouth State College in 1947.
Marion was a long time elementary school music teacher. She taught in Concord, NH, Franconia, Bethlehem, Sugar Hill, Littleton, Landaff, and Lisbon. She loved music and shared her talents with many children and adults. Marion was a member and one-year President of the Delta Kappa Gamma International and she won the Founders Award. Marion was a choir director for many years at the Shared Ministry Church in Lisbon. She was a founder and director of a hand bell choir, which was a lifelong ambition. She also volunteered in the Plymouth State Alumni. Marion was a recipient of the 2000 Alumni Achievement Award
She was a member of the Lisbon Friends in Council and President of the local club for one year. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Lisbon Area Chamber of Commerce, North Country YMCA, community improvement projects, and a volunteer at the Grafton County Nursing Home where she continued to share her love of music. Marion was one of the founders of the Lisbon Annual Lilac Festival.
Marion enjoyed music, quilting, shopping, cooking, crossword puzzles, traveling, swimming, golfing, and being active in the Upstage Players in Lisbon.
Surviving family members include her husband, Wilbur Callender of Lisbon, NH; two sons, Jim Callender of Lisbon, NH, and Peter Callender of East Concord, NH; one brother, Russell Gould of Piermont, NH; one sister, Charlotte Wilson of Bradford, VT; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
SERVICES A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 12th at 2:00 p.m. at the Lisbon Shared Ministry Brick Church with Rev. Lyn O. McIntosh officiating. Burial will be in the Grove Hill Cemetery.
