Marjorie E. Kelley

Marjorie "Margo" Elizabeth (Sanford) Kelley, 88, died on June 27, 2018. Born in Medford, MA, daughter of Philip Noden Sanford and Mary Elizabeth (Robinson) Sanford. Margo grew up in Medford on the hilltop on Watervale Ave with her three surviving brothers, Phil, Paul and Bobby. She married her high school sweetheart Tom in 1952. After raising their family for many years in Warwick, RI and Lexington, MA, Margo and Tom bought a cottage colony called Bon Air Lodges on the shores of Lake Winnipesaukee in Moultonboro, NH. They ran the business for 32 seasons, from 1968 to 1999. They also operated the real estate brokerage office of Kendall Real Estate in Wolfeboro, NH.

Margo was very active and social; there wasn't a group or organization to which she didn't join or volunteer. Her happiest days were shared with her then best friend Evelyn where they tore up the Lakes Region as members of the Moultonboro Snowmobile Club. Her children will always remember the sound of their mother humming or singing all day as she worked through her daily chores. Margo and Evelyn sang with the Sweet Adelines, performed as clowns, and were avid quilters.

Margo and Tom became snowbirds for 25 years, wintering in Florida at Holiday Out in Jensen Beach on Hutchinson Island. She enjoyed swimming, tennis and clogging with her friends there.

In 2005, Margo and Tom moved into their in-law apartment in the home of daughter Gail and her husband Gene McCarthy in Hooksett, NH. Margo's other children include: Thomas Jr. (Skip), and his wife Kathleen of Manchester NH, Richard and his wife Betty of Fairbanks, AK, and Donald of Concord, NH. Margo had seven grandchildren: Catherine and Conor McCarthy, Sarah, Kevin, Ryder, Cody and Duke Kelley. Margo is also survived by her three brothers: Phil Sanford of Atlanta, GA, Paul Sanford and wife Margie of Salisbury, MA and Bobby Sanford and wife Leona of Ashby, MA.

A memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, July 28th from 10am-12pm at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH. She will be laid to rest alongside her husband at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH on Monday July 30th at 10:30 AM. All are invited to a Celebration of Life for Margo which will be held directly after the funeral from 12:30 PM to 4:30 PM at the home of Gail and Gene McCarthy at 23 Barberry Street in Hooksett.
