Martha A. Ondus, 76, of Nashua, passed away December 16, 2019 at the Hanover Hill Healthcare Center in Manchester, with her family by her side after a courageous battle with dementia.
Martha was born to the late Lawrence and Lucille (Gaudette) Day on May 30, 1943, in Lowell, Massachusetts. She attended Chelmsford High School and received her diploma in 1966. She was married to Andrew M. Ondus in 1967 with whom she shared 29-years of marriage residing in Nashua. Martha was the mother of six beautiful children and the successful business owner of Appliances Plus for over 20-years. She worked for the State of New Hampshire for 10-years before retiring to help care for her brother.
Martha is survived by four of her children, Joan M. Womack and her husband, Robert of West Palm Beach, FL; David M. Zaniewski of Wellington, FL; Stephen P. Ondus of Merrimack, NH; and Stephanie E. Ondus of Merrimack, NH; her four grandchildren, Justine Womack of West Palm Beach, FL; Elena Womack of Seattle, WA; Michael Womack of West Palm Beach, FL; and Connor Zaniewski of Wellington, FL; her siblings, Kathleen Kinney of North Chelmsford, MA; James Day and his wife Robin of Tyngsboro, MA; her sister-in-law Barbara Witkowski and her husband Thomas of Clinton, NJ; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her husband, Andrew M. Ondus in 1996, her two loving sons, Andrew C. Ondus in 1993 and Robert L. Zaniewski in 2000; her brother Lawrence L. Day in 2007 and her brother-in-law, Richard Kinney in 2020.
Throughout her life, Martha's energy was immense and her personality was contagious; you could not help but to smile and feel good around her. She adored spending time with her family, whether traveling, having dinner, playing Bananagrams, talking over coffee, or taking a drive to her favorite country store, Calef's to buy something 'Christmassy' despite the time of year. Martha was very devoted to and proud of her family, and leaves behind nothing but beautiful memories.
SERVICES: A memorial gathering will be held on Thursday, May 27, 2021 from 10 a.m. â 12 p.m. at the Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street, in Manchester. Those in attendance are respectfully requested to wear face coverings and practice social distancing. A graveside service and interment will follow at 1:00 p.m. at the Edgewood Cemetery in Nashua.
