MARY JANE PHILLIPS
LANDAFF, NH Mary Jane Phillips, 82, passed away at the Grafton County Nursing Home on Saturday, September 27th.
Mary was born a daughter to Frank and Emma (Clay) Kendall, on September 7, 1921 in Springfield, VT.
Mary grew up in Baltimore, VT and Springfield, VT. She graduated from Springfield High School in 1939 and greatly enjoyed the class trip with her graduating class to the New York World Fair of 1939. Mary moved to Landaff, NH in 1953 and married her late husband, Russell L. Phillips.
Mary worked various domestic jobs for the majority of her life. She was an active member of the Landaff United Methodist Women, and a current 38-year member of the Landaff Mount Hope Grange. Mary was a long time member of the Northern New Hampshire Pomona, the Inter-church Council, and the Happy Hour Womens Group. For many decades she was a mainstay among the women who put on church, grange, and fire warden dinners at the town hall. She was noted for her devotion in taking care of the needs of many of the single, elderly people in town. Mary was always the first to volunteer to help anyone or organization.
Surviving family members include her son, David A. Phillips of Lakewood, CO; one brother, Addison Kendall of Baltimore, VT; and two sisters, Rachael Shelly of Clintonville, WI, and Louise Coggeshall of Springfield, VT. Her husband, Russell two sisters, and three brothers predeceased her.
SERVICES A calling hour will be held on Thursday, October 2nd from 1 to 2 p.m. at the Landaff Center Church. Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Lyn McIntosh officiating. Burial will follow in the Landaff Center Cemetery.
