Mary E. Riordan

Mary “Lizzie” E. (Gillan) Riordan, 70, of Niantic, CT, died January 18, 2008 at Catholic Medical Center. She was born in Cambridge, MA on December 28, 1937, the daughter of Harold and Mary Kathleen (Costello) Gillan and had been a CT resident for over 20 years before moving to NH in 2007. She had worked at D.L. Maher as an executive assistant for many years. Prior to that, she had worked for the American Red Cross in Hawaii and in Germany. She traveled extensively and loved to sing, listen to opera, dine out and shop. She was an avid Red Sox Fan. In her life: Family members include her husband of 22 years, James Riordan; two daughters, Pamela Gauthier and her husband Scott of Bedford and Lia Bertolaccini and her husband Anthony of Chelmsford, MA; a step-son, Richard Riordan of CT; two step-daughters, Michelle Rigdon and Kelly Barry, both of CT; ten grandchildren; a brother, James Gillan of OH; three sisters, Caroline LoPardo of Weare, Janice DeLuca of MA and Elaine Maisel of FL; many nieces, nephews and cousins. She also leaves behind her loving dog, Fenway. A memorial gathering will take place at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street on Saturday from noon to 1:00 PM. A memorial service will follow in the funeral home chapel at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St’ Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
