July 8, 1950 – June 9, 2026
Temple Adath Yeshurun
Starts at 10:00 am (Eastern time)
Dr. Mary Orr Douglas Singer, 75, of Londonderry, New Hampshire, passed away peacefully on June 9, 2026, at Hanover Hill Health Care Center in Manchester following a recent decline in health.
Born Mary Orr Douglas on July 8, 1950, in Bridgeport, Connecticut, she was the eldest daughter of James Lester Douglas and Jennie Isabelle Douglas.
A graduate of New Milford High School, Dr. Singer continued her education at Hobart and William Smith Colleges before earning advanced degrees from the University of New Hampshire, culminating in a Ph.D. in Education. She dedicated her professional life to education, serving as a respected English teacher and administrator in the Goffstown and Salem, New Hampshire, school systems. Even in retirement, her passion for teaching continued as she taught part-time for Southern New Hampshire University's online program. Her commitment to education and lifelong learning was a defining part of who she was.
Dr. Singer was predeceased by her beloved husband of 43 years, Neil R. Singer, and by her two younger sisters, Eleanor Douglas Rice and Amy Douglas.
She is survived by her daughter, Jessica (Singer) Ecker and her husband, Robert "Sonny" Ecker, Jr.; her son, Douglas Singer; and her cherished grandchildren, Kennedy Lynn Ecker, Joley Dylan Ecker, Felix Solon Singer, and Phineas Robert Singer.
Outside of her professional accomplishments, Mary found happiness in the simple pleasures of life and the company of family and friends. She loved gardening and taking long walks, finding peace and beauty in the outdoors and staying active. She enjoyed cooking and baking and delighted in bringing people together for special occasions and family gatherings, especially a Passover Seder, creating meals and treats that she encouraged everyone to enjoy.
Mary was an avid reader and enjoyed participating in book clubs with friends and colleagues, where lively conversations, shared meals, and plenty of laughter were as important as the books themselves. She had a gift for building community and nurturing friendships that lasted a lifetime.
Music was another of Mary's great passions. She loved singing and performing, participating in community musical organizations, barbershop harmony, and mixed vocal quartets. Her enthusiasm for music and performance brought joy to those around her and created lasting bonds with fellow musicians and friends.
Her Jewish faith was an important part of her life. Even before officially converting, she found a spiritual home at Temple Adath Yeshurun in Manchester, where she and her family became devoted members of the congregation. Through her faith and community involvement, she found friendship, purpose, and a sense of belonging that enriched her life and the lives of others. For many years, she generously volunteered her time in numerous capacities, including serving as the longtime co-editor and later editor of the Temple Bulletin.
Dr. Singer will be remembered for her intelligence, determination, kindness, warmth, and generous spirit. She valued family, friendship, education, faith, and community, and she approached life with curiosity, compassion, and harmony. She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and happy memories shared with those fortunate enough to know her.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Temple Adath Yeshurun in Manchester, New Hampshire. Interment will immediately follow at Manchester Hebrew Cemetery. Shiva arrangements will be announced by the family.

May her memory be for a blessing.
