Mary E. "Beth" Smith, 57, of Brattleboro, VT passed away on Saturday, February 8, 2014 at her residence in Brattleboro. She was born in Springfield, MA on October 5, 1956, the daughter of the late Edward F. and Mary E. (Counihan) Ingraham.

Mary has been a Brattleboro resident for thirty years. She grew up in Epping, NH, where is attended the local school system, graduating from Epping High School as Class Valedictorian in 1974. She then went on to attend Keene State College, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and residing in Keene after graduating in 1978. Mary had muscular dystrophy, and before the disease prevented it, enjoyed ice skating, camping, hiking and biking. Mary always enjoyed reading, was a former Girl Scout leader, an avid Red Sox fan, and loved music, especially Celtic Thunder and the Beatles.

She is predeceased by a brother, Andrew Ingraham and a sister, Susan Wildes.

She is survived by her loving husband of 27 years, Lawrence E. Smith of Brattleboro; a daughter, Miranda H. Smith of Brattleboro; two sons, Arthur N. Smith and Daniel E. Smith, both of Brattleboro; two brothers, Edward "Bud" F. Ingraham II and his wife Bethany of Hebron, KY and Peter Ingraham and his wife Lori of Orlando, FL; a brother-in-law, Tim Wildes of Epping, NH; as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 15, 2014 at 4 PM at St. Michael's Episcopal Church, 16 Bradley Ave., Brattleboro. The KER-WESTERLUND FUNERAL HOME, 57 High St., Brattleboro has been entrusted with arrangements. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Rescue, Inc., 541 Canal St, Brattleboro, VT 05301 or to St. Michael's Episcopal Church.
