Mason Oscar Scammon, 68, died on Friday, March 10, 2017 at Elliot Hospital in Manchester. He was born on November 18, 1948 in Brockton, MA, son of the late Henry and Priscilla (Eustis) Scammon. He was the husband of Gail Scammon. They were married on May 30, 1993 in Derry, NH.
Mason graduated from Gorham High School in Gorham, ME in 1967. He proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps from 1968-1971. He spent his working years in many lumber yards, including Fox Lumber in Portland, ME; Crownport Lumber in Kingsport, TN; and Grossman's Lumber in Salem, NH. He also worked for the United States Postal Service in Londonderry. He ended his career as the warehouse supervisor at the Concord State Prison.
Mason played soccer in high school, and enjoyed fishing, bird watching, and especially enjoyed his dogs. Buddy has been his constant companion for the last 16 years.
Mason is survived by his loving wife, Gail Scammon of Webster, NH; his three daughters, Penny Wall of Lewiston, ME, Becky Dean of Amherst, NH, and Casey Mele of Milford, NH; he also leaves behind 8 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mason was predeceased by his brother, Hank Scammon of Salem, NH.
A graveside service will be held at 2pm on Monday, March 27, 2017 at the New Hampshire State Veteran's Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH, with a gathering to follow at a location to be decided. Family and friends are invited to attend.
