Manchester, NH

Matthew Lewis Calloway was born February 22, 1974 at Fort Benning, Georgia, and left us too soon on April 8, 2024, in Manchester, New Hampshire.  He is survived by his beloved, longtime partner, Amanda Lewis and her son, Anthony Lewis of Manchester, NH; his father, Cecil Calloway and stepmother, Alice Calloway of Murfreesboro, TN; and his brother, Kevin Calloway of Nashville, TN.   He is also survived by numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins of the Calloway, Karn, Walburn, Fulford, and Jones families.  Matthew was preceded in death by his mother, Beverly Karn Calloway Isom and stepfather Reverend Paul Isom of Murfreesboro, TN, and Peoria, IL.

As a family member of a US Army officer, Matt moved to new places every few years. From Fort Benning he moved to Hattiesburg, MS, to Fort Meade, MD, to Fort Lewis, WA, then to Fort Leavenworth, KS, before arriving in Murfreesboro, TN.

Matt was a 1992 graduate of Oakland High School in Murfreesboro where he was an avid soccer player, most notably as the goalie for the local travel team.  The outdoors was his greatest passion and as a young man he worked for the Forest Service as a Hot Shot fire fighter based in Jackson, Mississippi.  From there he deployed to wildfires across the western United States, but also to the recovery efforts in New York City following the 9-11 attack.  Afterwards he travelled extensively seeking new outdoor adventures finding a new home in New Hampshire, and the wilderness of the White Mountains.  Most recently Matthew had become passionate about cycling with Amanda and even enjoyed participating in local bike races.

Matthew was employed by Carlisle Construction Materials in Manchester, bringing organizational skills and hard work to the company while he continued to fuel his passion for hiking, kayaking, camping, and all things outdoor adventure.

Matt elected cremation and his family has received his remains and intends a family ceremony at some time in the future to celebrate his life and grieve his passing almost certainly involving scattering his ashes in some of the wild places he loved.
