Maurice J. Chartrain, 83, of 71 Coventry Court, Merrimack and formerly of 63 Joliette Street, Manchester, died April 7, 2003 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center. He was born in Manchester on April 2, 1920, the son of Edgar and Octave (Laberge) Chartrain and had been a Manchester resident for most of his life before moving to Merrimack 18 years ago. He was a World War II Navy Veteran with the Sea Beas and was a member and past commander of the VFW Post 8214. He was part owner of New England Floor for over 20 years until his retirement. He then worked part-time at Shaws Supermarket in Merrimack for many years. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, stock car and NASCAR racing. He was the widower of Dora (Adams) Chartrain who died in 1970. Family members include a son, Paul Chartrain of Merrimack; two daughters, Doris Allard of Goffstown and Irene Nikias of Derry; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren; a brother, Adrian Chartrain of Manchester; a sister, Lucille Morin of Yarmouth, ME; and several nephews, nieces and cousins. Calling hours will be at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street on Thursday from 2 to 4 PM. Funeral services will be conducted in the funeral home chapel on Thursday at 4:00 PM. After cremation urn burial will take place in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 360 Route 101, Unit 501, Bedford, NH 03110.
