MAXINE WINNIFRED KINGSLAND
PEMBROKE, NH -- Maxine Winnifred Kingsland, died peacefully on April 1, 2015 with her husband by her side at Harris Hill Nursing Home in Concord NH after a long struggle with Alzheimer's Disease.
Maxine was born on August 30, 1936 in Guildhall, VT the daughter of Vernard "Buck" Fluery and Rita (Stinson) Fluery. Following graduation from Groveton High School in 1954, she received an Associate's Degree in X-Ray Radiology in 1956 through studies and apprenticeship at Rochester New York General Hospital and the University of Rochester. She was employed as an X-Ray Technician at Littleton Hospital for 30 years. During this time she completed studies in mammography at Southern New Hampshire Hospital in Nashua NH, following which she specialized in mammography at Littleton and other north-country hospitals. After she retired from X-Ray, she enjoyed working at H&R Block in Littleton. She sincerely wanted to make sure the people she helped received the best tax refund possible and thoroughly enjoyed this work.
Maxine lived in Littleton, NH for 40 years before moving to Pembroke in 2000. She had a life time love for horses and was the owner and rider of several horses over the years, her favorites being "Brutus" and "Lady". She was especially proud of the many riding accomplishments of her daughter Tami and herself, showing horses throughout New Hampshire and Vermont for over 30 years. Maxine was an expert at competitive Trail classes and won many blue ribbons. Maxine especially enjoyed horse shows with Lady and her granddaughter Jessica, competing together in lead line classes. She was proud that her daughter and both of her granddaughters, Jessica and Alex Julia, shared the same love of horses. She held membership in many horse related organizations including NH Horse and Trail Association, NE Horsemen's Council, American Quarterhorse Association and NH Quarterhorse Association.
Maxine was a soft and loving person and was never without a cat. She enjoyed long trail rides and spent hours at the barn. She befriended many animals in her lifetime and one such friend was a small, white rabbit, named "Wabbit" that was set free by a neighbor and lived for many years in the same stall with Brutus. Brutus and Wabbit would chase each other around the paddock when no one was looking, which always made Maxine laugh.
Maxine enjoyed shopping and dressing up for special occasions such as anniversaries and Lion's Club and Auto Show Conventions. She and her husband loved to dance. She was a wonderful seamstress and made many of her clothes including horse show outfits. She enjoyed crafts, and displayed and sold her crafts throughout shows in northern New Hampshire and Vermont for several years. She was an avid country music fan with Johnny Cash being her all-time favorite. With her husband, she traveled to many places including Bermuda, Europe, Mexico, Hawaii and other locations in America and Canada, her favorite being trips to West World Equestrian Center in Scottsdale, AZ. She was a long time member of Littleton First United Methodist Church and transferred her membership to Wesley United Methodist Church Concord after moving to Pembroke.
