May Isabel (Gourley) Blackhurst, 90, formerly of Saugus MA and Derry NH, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Thursday, February 20, 2020 at the Rockingham County Rehabilitation and Nursing Center, Brentwood, NH. She was born on May 16, 1929 in Dunadry, County Antrim, Northern Ireland to William and Jane (Ashe) Gourley.
May moved to the United States in the Fall of 1953 and worked as a secretary at Amica Insurance Company in Boston. She married her husband, David, in 1959. May worked at Union Hospital as an Admission's supervisor in Lynnfield MA for over 25 years. She was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and spent many years actively supporting both The Order of the Rainbow for Girls and The Order of DeMolay for Boys.
She and David lived in Saugus, MA for over 40 years, before moving to Derry in 1998. During her retirement years, May and David spent their summer months by the ocean in York, ME. May enjoyed sewing, needlepoint, dancing, taking long walks, gardening, and spending time with her family and her beloved dog, Gregor. She was also a volunteer at Parkland Medical Center, Derry NH where she was honored as a Living Treasure.
Preceded in death by parents, William and Jeannie (Ashe) Gourley; husband David MC Blackhurst of 49 years, sisters, Sally, Margaret, Nell, Betty; brothers, Sam, Alex, William. Survived by son and daughter-in-law, David K. and Natalie Blackhurst, Derry NH; daughters and sons-in-law, Alison J. and Robert Kivikoski, Manchester, NH; Lindsay J. and George Germanos, Shrewsbury, MA, grandchildren; Sandra Roy, Kendra Mayall, Jill Kivikoski, Aaron Kivikoski, Alex Kivikoski, Charles Germanos and Isabella Germanos; brother, John Gourley, Horsham, England; as well as many nieces and nephews around the world.
Services:
Friends and family are invited to a Celebration of Life service at the Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester on Saturday, February 29th, from 10:00am â 12:00pm. Internment will take place at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, at a future date. Memorial donations may be made to Shriners Hospital for Children, 51 Blossom St., Boston, MA 02114 and/or the Alzheimer's Association (alz.org).
