LITTLETON, NH -Melvin Dick Warden, age 96, of 55 Riverglen Lane, passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2006, at Morrison Nursing Home, Whitefield, N.H., after a brief illness.

Melvin was born on November 22, 1909, a son to Ralph W. and Emma (Glessner) Warden in Shippensburg, PA.

He lived with his family in Shippensburg and graduated from Shippensburg High School in 1928. Being the first in his family to attend college, he graduated from Shippensburg Teachers College in 1934 with four majors, English, Mathematics, History and Science.

Melvin started teaching in Oakville, PA as a teacher and Principal. He continued teaching in various assignments and schools until his retirement in 1973. He concluded his teaching career as an Administrator in the Elizabethtown Area School District. Upon retirement he relocated to Dade City, FL. He enjoyed walking, gardening, the pleasant Florida climate and his visits to New Hampshire during the summer months. He enjoyed all sports, in particular college football. At the age of 92, he attended the National Championship Rose Bowl game and at the age of 93, attended the National Championship Fiesta Bowl, to support the Miami Hurricanes with his grandson, Scott Warden.

He was a member of The First Congregational Church and The PA Retired Teachers Association. He was an active participant in all the activities that were offered at Riverglen. He enjoyed visiting and eating at the Littleton Senior Center.

His wife, Florence Bright Warden, died in 2001 and he moved to the Riverglen House in 2004 to be near his family.

He was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Lester and Paul Warden, and sisters, Minerva Fitz and Mary Long.

He leaves a daughter, Jane C. Gordon of Lancaster, PA; granddaughters, Catherine Mitzel and Elizabeth Doyle; grandsons, Edward Gordon and James Gordon; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great grandchild; a son, R. Edward Warden and daughter-in-law, Judith Eaton Warden, of Bethlehem, NH; granddaughter, Amy Somerville; grandsons, Scott Warden and Todd Warden; four great-grandchildren; and his sister, Elizabeth Wengert.

SERVICES: A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, February 11th at 2:00 p.m.at the First Congregational Church in Littleton, NH, with The Rev. Edward E. Lopeman officiating. Burial will be in the Glenwood Cemetery in the summer.
