DOVER, NH – Merilda M. Curtis, 84, passed away on April 4, 2015 in Dover, NH with her family by her side. She had been a victim of Alzheimer's, affirmed with the disease for many years.

Merilda was born in East Barnet, VT on February 22, 1931, daughter of the late Raymond and Leona (Cooper) Bijolle. She is predeceased by her husband, George W. Curtis in 1983.

Merilda lived for many years in Littleton, then Lyman prior to moving to Rochester after George's death.

Her professional passion was the care and assistance of the affirmed elderly; working in several nursing homes and hospitals in Connecticut and New Hampshire. Later in life, after her daughters were grown, Merilda went on to school and received her licensed nursing degree at Berlin Vocational School in 1971.

In her earlier retirement years from nursing, Merilda worked for the City of Rochester as a school crossing guard. She was also a patient advocate for residents of nursing homes in Strafford and Rockingham counties and surrounding areas.

Merilda and her husband enjoyed square dancing and were former members of the Littleton Squares. She continued dancing for many years when she moved to Rochester. She also enjoyed playing golf. Merilda was an avid reader and enjoyed watching sports, especially golf. Her sporting favorites were Joe Montana and Tiger Woods. She especially loved spending time with her great-grandchildren and watching them grow.

Merilda shared her Episcopal faith as an active member of All Saints' Episcopal Church in Littleton, Church of The Epiphany in Lisbon and Church of The Redeemer in Rochester, NH.

Merilda is survived by her loving daughters (Shea), Sharyn R. Short and her husband Patrick of Rochester, NH and Jane E. Parkhurst of Pittsburg, PA. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren, Jennifer L. (Macon) Dickson and her husband Dave of Farmington, NH and Peter B. Macon and his wife Sylvia of Lagrange, KY. Merilda adored and cherished her great-grandchildren Chase, Jaxson, Alexis, and Tristan. She is also survived by her sisters, Dorothy McCorkle of Florida and Donna Caron of Maine and several nieces, nephews and cousins. In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by her siblings: Raymond, Thelma, Gertrude, Donald and Robert.

SERVICES -- A Graveside Memorial Service for family will be held on October 2nd, 2015 at 11:00 a.m., in Glenwood Cemetery in Littleton.

In celebration and remembrance of Merilda's life or in lieu of flowers, at the family's request; donations in Merilda's name may be sent to the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
