Michael E. Barlow, 74, of Bow passed away peacefully with his wife at his side at the Concord Regional VNA Hospice House on Saturday, May 21, 2016. Mike fought a long, courageous and dignified battle with prostate cancer, and more recently, frontotemporal dementia.
Mike was born in Maryville, Missouri on December 26, 1941 to Allen Edgar Barlow, Jr. and Jeanne Frances (Kegin) Barlow. He attended grade school in a one-room school house in Villisca, Iowa and graduated from Villisca High School. Mike earned a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from the University of Iowa. Upon graduation, Mike enlisted in the United States Air Force and went on to serve at Kimpo Air Force Base Korea. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Captain. Following his time in the service, Mike worked for four years as a Marketing Representative at IBM in Concord, NH. He then took a job with the State of NH, Department of Administrative Services, where he remained for 33 years serving in several capacities and spent several years as a Financial Data Manager. He was a long time member of the Winnipesaukee Yacht Club where he enjoyed all kinds of boating. Mike is tenderly described by those who knew him best as an incredibly thoughtful, fun-loving and witty man who was very proud to be able to say he never had any moving violations!
Mike is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Deborah (Lord) Barlow; two loving sons, Gregory Barlow of San Francisco, CA and Jeffrey Barlow and his wife, Sydney of Dublin, CA; a step-son, Ian Barnett; one precious granddaughter, Chloe; a sister, Pat Redington of Everett, WA; two nephews and numerous cousins, aunts and uncles scattered throughout the Midwest. A very special "thank you" goes out to Mike's mother-in-law, Barbara Lord, his sister-in-law, Cindy Merchant, both of Concord, and his good friend and neighbor, Paul Humphreys of Bow for their help and support over the past couple of years. The family would like to express heartfelt thanks to the kind and compassionate people who cared for Mike at Concord Regional VNA Hospice House and, prior to that, the caring staff of Granite Ledges Homestead Unit.
A private committal service with military honors will be held with family and close friends in attendance at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mike's memory may be made to the Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration at Radnor Station Building 2 Suite 320, 290 King of Prussia Road, Radnor, PA 19087.
