Bedford, NH

Michael R. Bernard, 55, of Bedford, NH, a devoted husband, father and pillar of the community, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, February 22, 2025 at his residence in Bedford, NH.

Michael was born on July 10, 1969, in Manchester, NH, the son of Omer and Rolande (Mignault) Bernard. He was a resident of Bedford, NH for his entire life.

Michael's distinguished law enforcement career began in 1996 as a police officer in Auburn, NH. Three years later, he joined the Bedford Police Department, where he spent the next two decades serving the community. He rose through the ranks, retiring with the honor of Lieutenant in December 2020. His dedication to the department didn't end there, as he continued to serve as a part-time Special Officer.

In addition to his law enforcement career, Michael was a driving instructor for the AAA Driving School in Merrimack, NH, helping to shape the next generation of safe and responsible drivers. Most recently, he worked as an Account Executive for CSI Technology Group, where he applied his exceptional skills and knowledge to build strong relationships with clients.

Michael was an exemplary public servant, dedicating countless hours to various initiatives that promoted the well-being and safety of his community. Most recently, he served on the town as Vice Chairman of the facilities committee for the fire and police safety complex, leveraging his expertise to ensure the project's success.

Michael's impact extended far beyond his professional accomplishments. He was a loving husband and father, cherishing time spent with his family. An avid sports enthusiast, Michael enjoyed golf, hockey, and football games, and participated in the Bedford Men's Softball League.

Beneath his humble exterior lay a wrestling legend. As "Freight Train Fulton," Michael thrilled audiences as a professional wrestler, earning his place in the International Wrestling Federation Hall of Fame in 2019. Wrestling was one of his greatest passions, and he will be remembered for his strength, both in and out of the ring.

His passion for sports and youth development led him to coach and umpire Bedford Little League Baseball, as well as coach his sons' hockey teams throughout the years. Michael's voice was also familiar to many, as he co-commentated Bedford High School play-by-play broadcasts and recorded numerous PSA announcements for the Bedford Police Department (BPD) in collaboration with BCTV.

A staunch advocate for community policing, Michael worked tirelessly to promote this initiative, fostering stronger relationships between law enforcement and the community. His commitment to public service was unwavering, earning him the respect and admiration of his peers and constituents.

Michael's selflessness and generosity inspired countless individuals, as he was always willing to lend a helping hand or offer support to those in need. His legacy as a devoted public servant, husband, father, and friend will be deeply missed, but his impact on the Bedford community will be felt for generations to come. Rest in peace, Michael R.
