Mr. Michael Goumas, 82, of Manchester, NH died June 13, 2008 at Hanover Hill Health Care in Manchester following a long illness. He was born on October 8, 1925 in Mytilini, Samos, Greece the youngest son of the late Demetrios "James" and Marouthiou "Mary" (Babakas) Goumalatsos. His family came to America in 1930 with anticipation for a better life. He has lived most of his life in the Dover and Manchester areas of New Hampshire, graduating from Dover High School in 1943. Mr. Goumas served in the US Navy during World War II from 1943 to 1946, ultimately onboard the USS Albemarle in the Asian Pacific before his honorable discharge and return to civilian life. Mr. Goumas enjoyed the furniture business; and in the late 1970's and early 1980's owned the successful Barn Furniture stores in Farmington and Rochester, NH. He is survived by his sister, Anne Timbas of Manchester, two daughters, Laura Green of Virginia and Rosemary Bode of Ohio; son, Steven Goumas of Florida; 10 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins in the New Hampshire area. In His Life: He was predeceased by his brother Costas "Gus" Goumas who died in 1972 and a nephew James Goumas who died in 2001. There are no calling hours.
