Michael Patrick McEwen of Hillsborough, New Hampshire, died peacefully at his home on April 22,2024 at the age of 78.
Michael was born on June 18, 1945 in Omaha, Nebraska, to George and Fern (Myers) McEwen. He was one of five children: John, Arthur, Suzanne and Katherine. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Arthur.
Michael is survived by his devoted wife of 24 years, Mary (Odle) McEwen. He was previously married and is also survived by his three sons Brett, Ryan, and Derek, who all reside in Arizona. He is also survived by two stepchildren, Linda Bean and Richard Chiorino. He has numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren as well.
Michael graduated from high School and joined the Marine Corp at age 18. He served from 1964 until his retirement in 1984. He served honorably in the Vietnam War and had a long and distinguished career as an aircraft mechanic and production control supervisor.
After his retirement from the Marine Corps, Michael spent the next 16 years working for Northrup Grumman. He then moved from California to Massachusetts and spent several years working for the Massachusetts Division of Fisheries and Wildlife Service as a security officer in the Hadley office. He also spent his time in retirement driving a school bus and ended his work life driving for Hillsborough Ford. He has made many friends over the years and was beloved by so many of his colleagues.
Michael married the love of his life, Mary, on May 13, 1998. They met while working for Northrup Grumman and lived in California until their move to New England in 2005. They initially settled in Massachusetts and made their way to Hillsborough, New Hampshire, in 2010. They purchased a home on Franklin Pierce Lake where they spent many happy years. He was active in his community, joining the Zoning Board and working for the voting polls.
SERVICES: Mike will be buried at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, in Boscawen. A graveside service will be held on June 18, 2024 at 2 pm. There will be a celebration of his life at the American Legion on 538 West Main Street, Hillsborough, following the service.
