Michael “Mike” Chriss Monroe, age 76, passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of his family. He was born on June 16, 1949, in Bennington Vermont to Elizabeth (Nichols) Monroe and Francis Monroe.
Mike was raised in Dorset Vermont alongside his brother, Matthew Monroe. In his early years, he spent much of his time on the Nichols family farm in Dorset, a cherished multi-generational dairy farm that helped shape his strong work ethic, resilience, and deep appreciation for family and tradition. He was predeceased by his beloved wife, Rosemarie (Levesque) Monroe, his parents, and his brother.
A proud veteran, Mike honorably served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. His service to his country remained a source of pride throughout his life.
Mike was a talented basketball player during both high school and college and carried his love of sports with him throughout his life. He was an avid fan of NASCAR and faithfully cheered on the New England Patriots every season. He also had a special love for animals, especially his beloved cat, Tigger, who brought him great companionship and comfort.
Throughout his life, Mike faced extraordinary hardships with remarkable resilience, strength, and perseverance. Those who knew him best admired his ability to endure difficult times while continuing to love and support his family with unwavering devotion.
Above all else, Mike cherished his family. He is survived by his children Pauline (Monroe) Thibeault and her husband Troy Thibeault, Jody (Monroe) Lyonnais, and her husband Robert Lyonnais. He also leaves behind nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild, all of whom brought tremendous joy and pride to his life.
Mike will be remembered for his strength, loyalty, determination, generosity, and deep love for his family and country. Though his passing leaves a tremendous void, his family finds comfort in knowing he is reunited with his beloved wife and those who passed before him.
A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, May 27th at 3:00 PM at St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, 75 Pinehill Ave, Nashua, NH.
He will be deeply missed and forever loved.
