Mona Boutin

Mona Fay (Saulnier) Boutin, 88, died Wednesday, January 17, 2024, at the Grafton County Nursing Home, after a period of declining health, surrounded by her loving family.

Mona was born in Campton, NH, on February 22, 1935, the daughter of Howard and Eva (Dolloff) Saulnier. She attended Campton Elementary School and graduated from Plymouth High School in 1953.

In 1952, she met the love of her life, Francis Boutin, and they were married on November 23, 1953. Together, they raised their three children. She was a loving mother and excellent homemaker.

In 1970, Mona started working at P&C/Grand Union in Littleton, NH. She held many different positions there until her retirement in 1989. She was a favorite cashier of many in the Littleton area.

Mona was a hard worker and enjoyed mowing her lawns. Many probably remember seeing her push her lawnmower at her big, brown house on Rt. 302, in Lisbon, where she resided from 1963 until she moved in with her daughter, Donna, in Bath, in 2016.  Mona also enjoyed working in her flower beds. She crocheted many afghans for her children and grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting sweaters and making quilts. She canned many vegetables from the garden she and Francis raised together. She and Francis would often go for a drive to visit relatives. She always looked forward to the frequent visits of her son, Tony.

Something her family will always remember Mona for is her lasagna dinners, whoopie pies, molasses cookies, and peanut butter cookies.   Mona was a fantastic cook who enjoyed having her family around to share it with.

Mona was predeceased by Francis, her husband of 61 years; her daughter, Terry Smith; five brothers: Irwin, Ernest, Cecil, Edward (Tootie), and Royal Saulnier; one sister, Claire Littlefield; son-in-law, Stanley Smith; and a great-granddaughter, Coraline Boutin.

She is survived by her daughter, Donna L. Cate and husband, Wayne, of Bath, NH; her son, Tony Boutin, of Lisbon, NH; eight grandchildren: Travis Smith (Lisa), Sonya Hazen (James), Dani Emery (Nathan), Kristin Smith, Patrick Boutin (Sabrina), Staci Fournier (Justin), Katelyn Carr (Andrew), and Skylar Boutin; eight great-grandchildren: Samuel and Ethan Emery, Noah and Tristan Hazen, Cooper Landry, Adora and Finlyn Boutin, and Gabriella Fournier; one sister, Sarah Strong; and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held privately.

Arrangements and care have been entrusted to the Phaneuf Funeral Home and Crematorium.
