Salem, NH - Nancy Claire Potter Horten, 80, passed away on 9/11//2021.
Born on 2/11/1941 and raised in Illinois, she was the daughter of Ralph and
Pauline Potter and stepdaughter of Eleanor, Virginia and Marilyn Potter who
predeceased her. She lived in the New England area for 57 years
She and her sister grew up and attended the schools in Skokie and
Evanston, Illinois. Nancy earned her B.A. in English at Indiana
University in 1964. Nancy was awarded first place in the Indiana University
Writer´s Conference two years running and hoped to publish her young adult
book titled, Scaramouch. She received her M.Ed in 1971 and C.A.S. through
an EDPA fellowship in 1972 in Elementary Counseling at the University of
Maine in Orono. Nancy was an educator in both regular and special
education from grade school through junior college for 35 years. Nancy
spent the final 17 years as an elementary counselor at the
Jewett Street School, Manchester, NH.
Her lifelong passion was working with horses. An avid horsewoman, she
pursued her interests as a rider, instructor and equine myofascial
therapist. She also practiced mind-body balancing/behavioral therapies with
horses and rehabilitating horses with these issues through her business
Equinequilibrium as well as dressage/event instruction. Her riding
specialized in eventing and dressage, riding for over 50 years and earning
numerous and many awards and ribbons in varied riding events and shows
throughout New England. Through the years she was an active participant in
the Londonderry Women´s Club, Londonderry Democratic Committee,
Rockingham Pony Club, Society of Children´s Book Writers´ Club, PEO
Chapter J of Derry, and the Molly Stark Chapter of the DAR.
She is survived by her sister, Dr. Cynthia Tenicki and husband Joseph,
niece and nephews, Samantha Hole and husband Nate, Dr. Peter Tenicki
and Christopher Tenicki and will be sadly missed by many including Margo
Boyd and Steve Bicknell, Jane and Jim Hannum, Carol Guerrin, Mary and
Phil Tetreau, Laura Lafferty Inman and Brian Inman and Tracie and Bruce
Lemieux as well as many more in the equestrian community of New
Hampshire, New England and beyond.
Graveside services to be held on 10/1/21 at 11:00AM, Forest Hill Cemetery,
