Nancy Cecelia Lane, 65, of North Andover, passed away on June 17, 2014.
She was born on August 17, 1948, in Boston, MA, the daughter of Catherine C. Yunes (née Quilty). She was the eldest of nine warmhearted, witty, and diminutive children. She and her siblings â Chucky, Eileen, Jimmy, Paul, Debbie, Susie, Marty, and Kenny â spent many exuberant years making mayhem and glee on P Street, attending St. Patrick's Day parades and holiday dinners, and celebrating life. Southie and Dot were chock full of the angels embodied by Nana, Pa, Mary, Dennis, Dolly, Betty, Marie, Tom, Jimmy, Buddy, Peggy, Noen, and Hannah. Nancy is with them now. Dia is Mhuire Duit agus Padraig â God and Mary and St. Patrick with you.
In 1965, while working at Jordan Marsh, she met the love of her live: the bright, handsome, and loyal Will Lane. She knew he liked her when he persistently delivered too many office supplies. She wrote to him while he was in Vietnam. And in 1968, Nancy and Will married. She gained new warmhearted and witty siblings â Wallie, Bobby, Geri, and Billie â and superb in-laws in Will Sr. and Rita Lane and Agnes and Dave Munro.
Nancy and Will moved to Arlington to begin their family and their 46-year marriage. They savored many a dinner with Carol and Jimmy Kenney, followed by late night Bridge games. She injected her snappy comments and won all their hearts. Nancy and Will drove long drives, traveling to see New England foliage and down the Cape. She read book after book after book. In 1969, Nancy gave birth to their daughter, Denise. Five years later, she gave birth to their son, Adam. She was a perfect mother.
For 22 years, Nancy zipped along Route 125 in a series of Toyota MR2s â impeccably dressed and wearing killer heels â to her third-shift job in software technical support. (She stated unequivocally that she never got a speeding ticket.) There, she met her best friend, co-conspirator, gambling partner, and fellow child-adorer, Cherry Freeman.
The best and highest use of Nancy's bountiful love and intelligence was her devotion to children. Every baby she encountered was brilliant, gorgeous, and engaging. For Nancy â now Nana â bliss was hobnobbing with her four grandsons: Lane Ryan, Zachary, Bryce, and Drake. They are all perfect and scootchy. Just like Nana.
Nancy's gifts and memory live on in her immediate family members: Will Lane (North Andover, MA); Denise Lane, Rickey Glover, Lane Ryan, Bryce, and Drake (Bedford, NH); Adam Lane and Zachary (North Andover, MA); Chucky and Connie Yunes (Lynn, MA); Mac McIntosh (Lawrence, MA); Jimmy and Debi Yunes (Alton, NH); Donna Yunes (Derry, NH); Debbie and Gerry Corriveau (Dracut, MA); Susan and John McIntosh (Tewksbury, MA); Eileen Yunes (Salem, NH), Kenny Yunes (Medford, MA); Wallie Gottfredsen (Burlington, MA); Geri Lane (Seaside, OR); Bobby and Karen Lane (Santa Rosa Beach, FL); Billie and Pino Audia (Hanover, NH); and too many brilliant, gorgeous, and engaging nieces and nephews to name.
The obituary author would like to thank Nancy for her vocabulary and sense of humor.
Nancy's Memorial Gathering will be held at the Phaneuf Funeral Home, 243 Hanover St., Manchester on Sunday from 10:30AM to 12:30PM. Her Memorial Service will follow immediately in the funeral home chapel at 12:30PM.
