Nancy J. Van Uden, 78, of Bedford, NH, passed away on December 24, 2024 following a period of declining health. Born in Manchester, NH on November 6, 1946, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary (Reilly) Van Uden. She was married to the late Peter Tomaini. Nancy will be greatly missed by her family and close friends.
Nancy was raised in Manchester, NH and was a 1964 graduate of West High School. She went on to earn her Bachelor’s Degree in Education from Keene State College in 1968. She had a long career in education, starting at Reeds Ferry Elementary School where she taught fifth grade. She was also a driver’s education teacher for the City of Manchester. Most prominently, she was a math teacher at Southside Middle School in Manchester, retiring in 2006 after 38 years of employment.
Nancy loved to laugh and be with people. She and her late husband, Peter, enjoyed many happy years traveling to Florida with their caravan of animals and spending winters at their home in The Villages. She loved animals and volunteered at animal shelters in both Florida and New Hampshire. She enjoyed playing bridge, golf, and especially Mexican Train with her fellow high school friends, Linda Gelinas, Lynne Tarr and Bonnie Kidder and lifelong friend, Maureen McQuaid.
Nancy is survived by her brother, John Van Uden of Bedford; her step-children, Karyn Dietrich of Gilford, Liz Veilleux of Goffstown, Jill Conway of New Jersey, and Susan Tomaini of San Francisco; her niece and nephews, Kathy Van Uden of Manchester, Michael Van Uden and his wife Rose of Manchester, and Tom Van Uden of Manchester; as well as seven step-grandchildren, a great niece, a great nephew and a great-great niece.
There will be no calling hours and a private Mass of Christian Burial will be held.
