Norman Glenn LaMoria, a longtime and well-known resident of Newfane, Vermont, passed away peacefully on October 22, 2026, following a period of declining health.
Norman was born on August 25, 1937, in Rutland Town, Vermont, to Jerome Francis LaMoria and Irene Grace (Raymond) LaMoria. He spent his early years in Rutland and graduated from Mount Saint Joseph Academy in 1956.
Following graduation, Norman proudly served in the United States Navy from 1956 to 1960, training as an electrician’s mate. He often enjoyed sharing stories of his Navy days aboard the aircraft carrier Antietam, reflecting the pride he took in serving his country.
After completing his military service, Norman pursued a career as an electrician. He eventually owned and operated his own electrical company for many years, earning a strong reputation for his skill, reliability, and professionalism.
In August 1959, Norman married his first love, Esther Mae Cressy. Together, they made their home in Newfane, Vermont, where they raised their two sons, Peter and Jerry. Norman and Esther were active members of their community, participating in local events and building lasting friendships with neighbors and friends. The relationships they formed and nurtured throughout their years in Newfane became an important part of their lives. Esther preceded him in death in 1996.
Norman’s dedication to serving others extended far beyond his military service and professional career. In 1961, he joined the Newbrook Volunteer Fire Department, beginning what would become a lifelong commitment to his fellow firefighters and community. He remained an active member until his passing, dedicating more than six decades to the department. Over the years, he held numerous leadership positions, including chief and president. His extraordinary years of service reflected his unwavering sense of duty, leadership, and commitment to the safety and well-being of his community.
An avid outdoorsman, Norman enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping, sharing many of these adventures with family and close friends. He especially treasured trips to Eaton’s Ranch in Wyoming, where he enjoyed horseback riding and fly-fishing with his grandchildren. His annual hunting trips to the North Woods of Maine also held a special place in his heart, providing cherished opportunities to spend time with family and friends. Summers at Small Point, Maine, were another beloved family tradition, filled with fishing for striped bass and bluefish, digging for clams in the mud, and enjoying fresh lobster.
Norman was a true hands-on craftsman and a proud do-it-yourself man who could turn his hand to just about anything. In the truest sense, he was a “stubborn Vermonter”—too frugal to pay someone to do a job he was perfectly capable of doing himself. He loved a good day’s work and took great pride in improving his home and property. Over the years, through determination, ingenuity, and countless hours of hard work, he continually renovated and modernized his 18th-century farmhouse, transforming it into a comfortable 21st-century home. If something needed fixing or improving, Norman’s first instinct was to roll up his sleeves and do it himself.
Later in life, Norman married Martha Ann (Clark) LaMoria, who shared the last 28 years of his life. Together, they enjoyed an active life, traveling to visit family and spending time outdoors. Their marriage brought together two loving families and was filled with companionship, shared adventures, and treasured memories.
In addition to his first wife, Esther, Norman was predeceased by his parents, Jerome and Irene LaMoria; his brother, Raymond LaMoria; and his sisters, Francis Alban and Gail Sheldon.
Norman is survived by his beloved wife, Martha LaMoria; his two sons, N. Peter LaMoria and Jerome F. LaMoria (Maureen); his stepdaughters, Kimberly King (Jamie) and Jenn McCutcheon (Jeremy); seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Norman’s life was defined by hard work, service, devotion, and an enduring love for his family. From his years in the United States Navy to his career as an electrician and his extraordinary commitment to the Newbrook Volunteer Fire Department, he dedicated much of his life to serving others. His more than six decades of service to the department stand as a lasting testament to his dedication and the meaningful role he played in his community.
Norman touched countless lives through his work, friendships, and years of service. He will be remembered by his family, friends, fellow firefighters, and the Newfane community for his leadership, steadfast commitment, and the lasting relationships he built throughout his life.
Though he will be deeply missed, the memories he created, the lessons he passed along, and the love he shared will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
