Norman H. Smith, Jr., 73, of Wardsboro, VT died on Monday, January 4, 2016 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. He was born in Brattleboro on March 11, 1942, the son of Mayolyn (Winter) (Smith) Arsenault and the late Norman H. Smith, Sr.
Norman was a lifelong area resident. He worked as a construction supervisor for many years for H. Loney Construction in Brattleboro, and then for Wesfield Construction in Chesterfield, NH until his retirement. He was an avid fisherman, and a very creative woodworker, a maker of wine and maple syrup, and enjoyed working his property on his tractors. Norman especially loved spending time with his family. He would always be willing to share his time and his many talents with his family, friends, and neighbors.
He is predeceased by two brothers, Richard and Paul Smith.
He is survived by his loving wife, Laura Smith of Wardsboro, VT; his mother, Mayolyn Arsenault of Wardsboro; three sons, Shawn St. Francis of St. Albans, VT, David Smith and his wife Jessica also of St. Albans, and Robert Smith of CO; three daughters, Debra Smith and her husband Demian Johnston of Turner Falls, MA, Rebecca Brisbois and her husband Jeremy of Chesterfield, MA, and Amy Smith and her husband Steven Freckleton of Brattleboro; a brother, Herbert Smith of Swanzey, NH; three sisters, Mary Perusse and her husband Robert of W. Brattleboro, Nancy Perusse also of W. Brattleboro, and Norma Struthers and her husband Clarence of Vernon; as well as several grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 7, 2016 from 5PM to 7PM at KER-WESTERLUND FUNERAL HOME, 57 High St., Brattleboro, VT. Burial will take place in the spring. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Norman's name to Wardsboro Fire & Rescue, PO Box 151, Wardsboro, VT 05355.
