Manchester â Omer "Chic" Chicoine, Jr. died on May 16, 2014 after a brief illness.
He was born on July 20, 1943 the first of three children to Anne (Ainsworth) and Omer Chicoine, Sr.
He graduated from Bishop Bradley High school in 1961, St. Anselm's College in 1965 and Lowell University in 1977 earning a Master's Degree in Mathematics.
He taught Mathematics at Manchester Central High School from 1965 to 2002. He was advisor to the Bowling Club, Chess Club and Mathematics Club and head of the Mathematics department the last 18 years at Central High. He was also an associate professor at UNH@Manchester for approximately 20 years. Besides his family he loved teaching.
In his youth he enjoyed basketball, chess and table tennis. He was also known to shuffle a deck of cards occasionally.
Chic was an active member of the Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks, Lodge #146 for over 25 years where he was named "Elk Of The Year" several times and "Officer Of The Year". He was a lifetime member of the Alpine Club and volunteered his time at several organizations. During his retirement he enjoyed going to Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos.
He leaves behind his wife of 48 years, Arlene E. Chicoine (Bergeron) and three children, Kevin, Kirk and Melanie, a brother, Thomas and a sister, Carol Stone and one grandchild, Tristan Chicoine.
Calling Hours are at the Phaneuf Funeral Home, 243 Hanover St, Manchester on Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 11:30AM at St. Anthony Church, 172 Belmont St, Manchester. Burial will follow at St. Augustin Cemetery, Manchester.
