Owen "Butch" E. Lavery
Candia, NH-- Owen "Butch" Lavery, 72, of Candia, NH, passed to the heavens at his home in the loving presence of his wife, Ava, and family on December 16, 2014.
Ava Hale Lavery is a native of New Hampshire, a graduate of the University of New Hampshire, and currently employed by the US Veterans Administration.
A native of Oswego, NY, he was the youngest son of Irish-born US Army career serviceman David J. Lavery Sr and Victoria (Siembor) Lavery of Oswego.
Owen was a 1961 graduate of Oswego High School then served as an electronics specialist in the US Army. When his enlistment ended honorably he entered the workforce of RCA as an electronics and radar technician. During his career he worked for several corporations serving NASA in its "Pioneer," "Voyager," and "Apollo" missions to Mars, Saturn, and the Moon. These assignments included serving shipboard assignments tracking and recovering the Apollo astronauts. He received several commendations for his contributions to the success of these missions.
Owen enjoyed many hobbies and was an accomplished gardener. His enthusiasm for woodworking resulted in gifts and contributions to local fundraisers. He enjoyed trips with his wife to Booth Bay Harbor, ME, Florida and Oswego to spend time with family and friends. His happiest times were spent with his wife, children and grandchildren at his home for regular family gatherings.
Owen was predeceased by son, Warren "Chip" Hale Lavery, and sister, Kathleen Lavery Chandler of Chittenango, NY.
He is survived by his son Todd Lavery, his wife Vickie and their children Connor, Kaelyn, and Corynn of Goffstown, NH; daughter Shannon (Lavery) Best, her husband John and their children Austin, Kennedy and Lauren of Bedford, NH; son James Lavery, his wife Kelly, and their children Megan, Taylor, Madelyn and Abigail of Manchester, NH; and son Owen Thomas "Tom" Lavery and his wife Marissa of Hooksett, NH.
Owen "Butch," is also survived by siblings Maureen Donovan of Oswego, NY; Sarah Jane Lavery of Manchester, NH; David "Bucky" Lavery, Jr. of Oswego, NY; Thomas Lavery of Zephrhills, FL; Patricia Thomas and her husband Robert of Naples, FL; Joanne Leithner of Oswego, NY; and Eileen Goldych and her husband Michael of Oswego, NY; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins in the US and Northern Ireland.
Services: Calling hours will be Friday, December 19, 2014 5pm to 8pm at Phaneuf Funeral Home 243 Hanover St. Manchester, NH. A funeral mass will be on Saturday, December 20 at 10am at Ste. Marie Roman Catholic Church 378 Notre Dame Ave Manchester. Burial will be with Military Honors in Spring 2015.
