Paul Albert Dube

January 14, 1942 — July 5, 2023

Hooksett

Paul Albert Dube of Hooksett, NH, was born at home in Hudson, NH, to Albert Dube and Lydia Morin Dube on January 14th, 1942.  He passed away at Havenwood Heritage Heights in Concord, NH, on July 5th at age 81.

Paul attended Hudson public schools and the Camp Waya-Awi School in Rangely, ME.  He was everlastingly grateful to Laura Sharp, an extraordinary teacher at Waya-Awi, and he treasured his long friendship with Mrs. Sharp and her family.

Paul served in the US Army from 1963 to 1966.  A member of the Army Corps of Engineers, he was most proud of his participation in the building of the Freedom Highway in Thailand during his deployment there.  Paul was primarily employed by two New Hampshire commercial construction firms during his working years: Ferd Corporation of Hollis and Turnstone Corporation of Milford. As a project superintendent, he was firm and exacting, but encouraging, and as a result he was respected and beloved by the men who worked on his crews.  Paul was a skilled craftsman in several media, particularly in wood and masonry.  He was also a thoroughly-engaged, excellent cook!

Paul and his wife, Marcye McKenzie Dube, the love of his life, shared many adventures over their 27 years together.  Paul was blessed by his beloved son from a previous marriage, Shawn, who died suddenly in 2019 at age 48 due to an aneurism.

Paul had a big voice, a generous heart, and an enduring sense of humor.  Adored by family and friends, he is survived by his sister, Alice Lavoie, of Londonderry and his sister, Claire Bouffard and her husband, Paul, of Concord, and by his brother, Leo and his wife, Priscilla, also of Concord.   He is also survived by Shawn’s widow, Myra J. Dube and his granddaughter Elizabeth Z. Dube of Orlando, FL.  In addition, Paul is survived by his stepsons, William Cantwell of Merrimack and Steven Cantwell of Davenport, Florida.  Paul also leaves many loving nieces and nephews.   Paul was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Marcye, his son, Shawn, his sisters, Theresa Gendron and Gertrude Asselin and his brothers-in-law, Rene Gendron, George Lavoie and Roger Asselin.

There will be no calling hours. As Marcye did before him, Paul has willed his body to Tuft’s Medical School.  A memorial Mass is planned for 4:30 o’clock on Saturday, July 29 at Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church at 180 Loudon Road in Concord, NH.

In Paul’s memory, lend a hand, share a skill, and be there for a friend in need, as he did so willingly throughout his lifetime.

Assisting with arrangements is Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, Manchester. To view Paul’s online tribute, send condolences to his family, or for more information, visit https://phaneuf.net
