Mr. Paul A. Gardner, 84, of Manchester died October 11, 2009 at the Catholic Medical Center following a brief illness. He was born April 2, 1925 in Manchester, NH the son of the late J. George and Laura (Larochelle) Gardener. He was raised and educated in Manchester. Mr. Gardner was a lifelong resident of Manchester Mr. Gardner worked at JF McElwain in Manchester for over 35 years before retiring. During World War II he served in the Army Air Corps and was awarded a purple heart. He was a member of Catholic War Veterans, Disabled American Veterans and Post 79. He was also a member of the Legion of 1, 000 Men at Precious Blood. He was a communicant of Sacred Heart Church. Mr. Gardner enjoyed playing cards, cribbage, and board games. He also liked playing tennis, swimming and bowling on the league. Most importantly he loved his family and enjoyed spending time with them and all those who became family. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Violet (Veilleux) Gardner of Manchester; 2 sons, Emile Gardner and his wife Doris of Goffstown and Maurice Gardner of Bow; 4 daughters, Lorraine Loftus and her husband Hazen of Manchester, Priscille Edwards and her husband Ken of Manchester, Rachel Young and her husband Don of Bow and Pauline Johnson and her husband Ron of Manchester; 18 grandchildren; 21 great grandchildren; 1 brother, Robert Gardner of Benton, Maine; 3 sister, Theresa Dusseault of Goffstown and Florida , Jeannine Untiet of Goffstown and Sr. Lucille Gardner of Saco, Maine and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He also leaves behind many beloved sisters in-law and brothers in-law. He was predeceased by his brothers, Gerard Gardner, Edouard Gardner, Reginald Gardner and Norman Gardner. Calling Hours are at the Phaneuf Funeral Home, 250 Coolidge Ave, Manchester on Tuesday from 4-8PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday at 9AM at Sacred Heart Church, So. Main St, Manchester. Burial will follow at Mount Calvary Cemetery, Manchester. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Sacred Heart Church, 247 South Main St, Manchester, NH 03102.
