Paul Joseph McGrath, Jr. was the second child born to Paul Joseph McGrath, Sr. who worked as a pressman for the Boston Globe and to Ann T. McGrath (nee Shannon) who worked for New England Telephone on January 27th, 1955 in Revere, Massachusetts. The growing family moved to Marblehead and then later to Danvers, Massachusetts where Paul spent most of his formative years.
Paul entered basic training at Fort Gordon, Georgia for the Army National Guard in 1977 and served at the National Guard Joint Force Headquarters as a Private 2nd Class in the Military Police at Hanscom Field in Bedford, Massachusetts until 1981.
After his service, Paul worked at Norelco and for the Boston Globe. He then began his own painting company–McGrath and Sons in 1983. Expanding his horizons, Paul moved to New Hampshire where he continued painting for a time under TLC Painting, and then as TCB (Taking Care of Business) Painting until his cancer diagnosis in January, 2022.
Paul passed peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, September 7th, 2023 at 6:43 am.
He is preceded in death by his father Paul Joseph McGrath, Sr, his brother Michael Francis McGrath, and his mother Ann T. McGrath (nee Shannon).
Paul is survived by his partner Karole Maria Maidhof of Manchester, New Hampshire; his sister, Laurie Ann Kingston (nee McGrath) and her husband Gerald William Kingston (Skip) of Salem, Massachusetts; his sister, Kelly J. Boltas (nee McGrath) and her husband Michael Boltas of Peabody, Massachusetts; and his sister Kerry J. Favazza (nee McGrath) of Gloucester, Massachusetts.
He is also survived by Cathy Marcos (formerly McGrath) and his sons–Michael Albert McGrath, Paul Joseph McGrath III, and Patrick Anthony McGrath.
Paul is also survived by grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and many, many friends.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, September 14th, 2023 at 12PM at the Phaneuf Funeral Homes & Crematorium, 243 Hanover St. Manchester, NH. A graveside service will immediately follow at 2PM at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway, Boscawen, NH.
