Paul A. Sylvester, 64, of Loudon died peacefully at home on October 2nd following a difficult battle against cancer, his loving wife at his side.
Paul was born in Boston, MA on March 28, 1947, the son of John and Virginia (Tibbo) Sylvester. He was raised and educated in Massachusetts. After high school Paul enlisted in the United States Air Force and proudly served his country from 1966-1973 during the Vietnam War. Following his time in the service, Paul went back to school and graduated from Indiana University with a Physician Assistant degree. As a PA, he was employed in a variety of settings, including family and general practice, psychiatric, geriatric and correctional medicine. He also worked as a Deputy Medical Examiner. Of all his professional accomplishments, he was particularly proud of the work he did with the Department of Defense reviewing and counseling soldiers going to and returning from combat areas. He spent several years in this line of work which sent him to locations all over the world.
Paul loved to travel with his wife and children. He wanted to see everything the world had to offer and filled every spare moment of the travel itineraries to be sure no sight went undiscovered. Paul was one of the founding members of the NH Society of Physician Assistants. He was also a member of the M'sters Miata Club for several years, taking countless road trips in "Little Red." He was an avid wood worker who spent decades crafting cabinets and finish work for his home, and most recently, turning custom pens. One of the things Paul will be most fondly remembered for was his wonderful and sometimes unusual sense of humor.
Paul is survived by his wife of 29 years, Joyce Doris (Simpson) Sylvester; two sons, John Paul Vincent of Maryland, Scott Sylvester of Fort Drum, NY and a daughter, Sarah Sylvester of New York, NY; and his only grandchild Olivia. Also left behind are his favorite mother-in-law and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
An hour of gathering will take place from 1:00-2:00 pm on Thursday, October 6th at Phaneuf Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 172 King Street in Boscawen immediately followed by a Memorial Service at 2:00 at the funeral home. A graveside committal service with military honors will be held at 3:00 pm at the New Hampshire State Veteran Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway in Boscawen.
