Pauline was born in Quebec, Canada August 14, 1935, the 9th of 11 children born to Alfred and RoseAimee (Vaillencourt) Fortier. She began a lifelong career in education at the early age of 19, teaching grades 1-8 in a single classroom in a Canadian school. She married Rosaire Dodier in 1957 and relocated to the United States in 1961. While growing her family, Pauline returned to school to obtain the proper certificates to teach in the states. She attended Notre Dame College where she earned a bachelor’s degree in French Education and earned a master’s degree in French, minoring in Spanish, from Sorbonne in Paris where she attended after being awarded a full scholarship. Pauline went on to teach in Merrimack High School for 20 years before retiring. Following retirement, Pauline gave back to her community through volunteer work as a personal caregiver as well as a tutor.
Pauline and Rosaire enjoyed travelling all over America, South America, and Europe. They also loved to spend time with family, play cards with friends, and go out dancing most Saturday nights at the Carousel Ballroom. Pauline was a member of the Ladies of St. Anne’s and she was and a faithful parishioner of St. Anthony Church for over 50 years. She kept her mind and body active all her life, reading historical novels and other non-fiction and exercising daily until she was 80 years old. She was a strong, highly intelligent, take-charge type of woman who lived her life guided by logic, practicality, faith, and love. Pauline was known for her meticulous nature and her forthright manner in all interactions, but her most valuable trait was how she cherished every moment spent with her ever-expanding family.
